Define electrode potential, oxidation potential and reduction potential. Why is it not possible to calculate the absolute value of electrode potential?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It is impossible to have either oxidation or reduction without the other. Moreover, it is a relative tendency and can be measured with respect to a reference electrode only.
