What do you understand by bond pairs and lone pairs of electrons? Illustrate by giving one exmaple of each type.

The shared pairs of electrons present between the covalently bonded atoms are called bond pairs. The electron pairs present on the atoms but not taking part in covalent bond formation are called lone pairs. Example :
