Differentiate between Exoskeleton and endoskeleton

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Exoskeleton is present on the outside of the body. To allow movement, an external skeleton is made up of many jointed pieces, similar to a suit of armour, with strong solid sections protecting delicate organs. The basic material of exoskeleton is chitin. The muscles which bring about movement are attached inside the skeleton whereas an endoskeleton is an internal skeleton, encased within the body tissues. Vertebrate skeletons are made of living material, either cartilage or bone, which can grow as needed by the organism. A variety of joints make a whole range of movements possible.
