A tunning fork of unknown frequency gives 4 beats per second when sounded with a fork of frequency 320Hz. When loaded with a little wax it give 3 beats per second. Find the unknown frequency.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Unknown frequency =known frequency `pm` beat frequency
`=32 pm 4`
`=324 or 316Hz`
On loading with wax, the frequency decreases, the beat frequency decreases to 3, So the unknown frequency is 324Hz. If the beat frequency had increased then the unknown frequency would have been 316Hz.
