"The reverberation time is larger for an empty hall than a crowded hall". Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

A crowded hall means an empty hall plus crowd. The sound is absorbed by both the hall and the crowd. So sound cannot persist longer. But, in the case of empty hall, the absorption is less, so sound gets reflected from the walls, ceiling etc. and is prolonged. Thus, reverberation time is larger for an empty ball.
