Find the equation of the curve x^2 + y^2...

Find the equation of the curve `x^2 + y^2 - 3x + 5y - 8 = 0` when the origin is shifted to (1, 2) without changing the direction of axes.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For new equation replace x with x + 1 and y with y + 2
so `(x + 1)^2 + (y + 2)^2 - 3(x + 1) + 5(y + 2) - 8 = 0`
`x^2 + y^2 -x + 9y + 4 = 0`
