Only iodine forms hepta-fluroide IF(7), ...

Only iodine forms hepta-fluroide `IF_(7)`, but chlorine and bromine give penta-flurorides. The reason for this is:

A

low electron affinity of iodine

B

unusual pentagonal bypyramidal structure of `IF_(7)`

C

that the larger iodine atom ca accommodate more number of smaller fluroine atom around it

D

lwo chemical ractivity of `IF_(7)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

Due to larger size of iodine atom it cann accommodate upto seven small fluorine atoms around, it while due to smaller sizes of chlorine and bromine atoms do not accommodate seven fluroine atoms, i.e., steric factor dominate in case of chlorine and bromine.
