Assertion: A neddleplaced carefully on the surface of water may float while a ball of the same material will always sink.
Reason: The buoyancy of an object depends both on the material and the shape of the object.

A

Statement I is true, statement II is true and Statement II is a correct explanation for Statement I.

B

Statement I is true, Statement II is true and Statement II is NOT the correct explanation for Statement I.

C

Statement I is true, Statement II is false.

D

Statement I is false, Statement II is true.

The correct Answer is:
C

When a needle is placed carefully on the surface of water, it floats on the surface of water due to the surf ace tension of water, which does not allow the needle to sink. In case of a steel ball, the surface tension of the water is not sufficient to keep it floating, so it sinks down.

Why does an object float or sink when placed on the surface of water?

A shpere of iron and another of wood, both of same radius are placed on the surface of water. State which of the two will sink? Give reason to your answer.

Assertion : A solid and hollow sphere of same diameter and same material when heated through the same temperature will expand by the same amount. Reason : The change in volume us independent of the original mass but depends on original volume.

Assertion : All the photoelectrons emitted from the matal do not have the same energy. Reason : The maximum kinetic energy of photoelectrons depends on the light soures and the emitted plate material.

Assertion : All the materials always have the same colour, whether viewed by reflected light or through transmitted light. Reason : The colour of material does not depend on nature of light .

A : Two rings of equal mass and radius made of different materials, will have same moment of inertia. R : Moment of inertia depends on mass as well as distribution of mass in the object.

Statement-1: A thin stainless steel needle can lay floating on a still water surface. Statement-2: Any object floats when the buoyancy force balances the weight of the object.

Assertion :- The shape of trajactory depends on the acceleration and intial condition of motion. Reason :- Trajectory of an object moving under a constant acceleration may be a straight line.
