A solid conducting sphere of radius 10 cm is enclosed by a thin metallic shell of radius 20 cm. A charge `q = 20 muC` is given to the inner sphere. Find the heat generated in the process, the inner sphere is connected to the shell by a conducting wire.

Before connection with the wire, the total electrical energy is `U_(i)=q^(2)//8pi epsilon_(0)a` , after connection with the wire, all charges are transferred to the outer sphere. So
`U_(f)=q^(2)/(8piepsilon_(0)b)`
`:. DeltaH=U_(i)-U_(f)=q^(2)/(8piepsilon_(0))(1/a-1/b)`
`=((20xx10^(-6))^(2)xx9xx10^(9))/9xx(1/(10xx10^(-2))-1/(20xx10^(2)))`
`=9J`
