The correct Answer is:
b

The angular fringe width, i.e., the angle subtended by a fringe at the center of slits is given by
` beta_(theta) = (beta)/(D) = (lambda)/(d)`
According to the given conditions,
`beta_(theta) = (lambda)/(d) ge (pi)/(180 xx 60)`
`d le (6 xx 10^(-7) xx 180 xx 60)/(pi)`
`d le 2.06 xx 10^(-3) m = 2.06 mm`
Position of 3rd bright fringe,
`y_(3) = (3 lambda D)/(d) = (3 xx 6 xx 10^(-7) xx 1)/(2.06 xx 10^(-3)) = 8.74 xx 10^(-4) m`
Position of 5th dark fringe,
`y_(5) = ((n - (1)/(2)) lambda D)/(d) = (9 lambda D)/(2 d)`
`= (9 xx 6 xx 10^(-7) xx 1)/(2 xx 2.06 xx 10^(-3)) = 13.1 xx 10^(-4) m = 1.31 mm`

In Young’s double slit experiment, using light of wavelength 600 nm, 10^(th) bright fringe is obtained on a screen, 3mm from the centre of the pattern. If the screen is 120 cm away from the slits, calculate: (i) Distance between the two slits, (ii) Fringe width, i.e. fringe separation.

In Young.s double slit experiment using monochromatic light of wavelength 600 nm, 5th bright fringe is at a distance of 0.48 mm from the centre of the pattern. If the screen is at a distance of 80 cm from the plane of the two slits, calculate : Fringe width, i.e., fringe separation.

State two conditions to obtain sustained interference of light. In young's double slit experiment, using light of wavelength 400 nm, interference fringes of width X are obtained. The wavelength of light is increased to 600 nm and the separation between the slits is halved. if one wants the observed fringe width on the screen to be the same in the two cases, find the ratio of the distance between the screen and the plane of the slits in the two arrangements.
