Two identical straight wires are stretched so as to products `6 beats// s` when vibrating simultaneously. On changing the tension slightly in one of them, the beat frequency remains unchanged. Denoting by , `T_(1)` the higher and `T_(2)` the lower, initial tensions in the strings, then it could be said that that while making the above changes in tension

A

` T_(2)` was decreased

B

`T_(2)` was increased

C

`T_(1)` was increased

D

`T_(1)` was decreased

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B, D

Since `T_(1) gt T_(2) , v_(1) gt v_(2)`
Now , `v_(1) - v_(2) = 6`
Beat frequency would remains the same even if `v_(2) - v_(1) = 6`.
To decrease `v_(1) , T_(1)` needs to be decreased . To increase `v_(2) , T_(2)` needs to be increased.
