A sample of helium has a volume of `500 cm^3` at 373 K. Calculate the temperature at which the volume will become `260 cm^3` . Assume that the pressure is constant.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here, `V_(1)=900 cm^(3)`, `V_(2)=300 cm^(3)`
`T_(1)=(27+273) K=300 K`, `T_(2)=?`
Applying Charles's law,
`(V_(1))/(T_(1))=(V_(2))/(T_(2))`
`:. T_(2)=(V_(2)T_(1))/(V_(1))=(300 cm^(3)xx 300K)/(900 cm^(3))=100 K`
`=100-273= -173^(@)C`
