4.215 g a metallic carbonate was heated ...

4.215 g a metallic carbonate was heated in a hard glass tube and `CO_2` evolved was found to measure 1336 mL at 27°C and 700 mm pressure. What is the equivalent mass of the metal ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`PV=nRT=(w)/(M)RT`
or `(700)/(760)xx(1336)/(1000)=(w)/(44)xx0.0821xx300`
or `w=2.198 g CO_(2)`
Molecular mass of any meteal carbonate is `2E+60`, where `E` is the equivalent mass of the metal. So
`(2E+60)/(4.215)=(44)/(2.198)`
or `E=12.188 g`
