Explain, why water has high boiling and melting points as compared to `H_(2)S`.

Water is liquid due to the presence of strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding between `H_(2)O` molecules. Now to change the liquid into gaseous state more energy and hence heating to higher temperature is required. On the other hand, in `H_(2)S` there is no intermolecular hydrogen bonding between `H_(2)S` molecules. the `H_(2)S` molecules are held together by weak dipole-dipole interactions and weak van der walls forces. therefore, small thermal energy is required to cause the boiling to `H_(2)S`. thus water has a high boiling points and high melting points as compared ot `H_(2)S`
