Hydrolysis: Water can easily hydrolysis and halids of non-metals. In these process the water molecule mix with the substance and forms respective compounds. It also hydrolysis carbides, nitrides and phosphides of some metals. Hydration: in hydration process`//`reaction water has strong ability to form compounds with some metals salts known as hydrates. these can be classified into three types:
a. water molecules are coordinated to metal ion in a complex
b. water molecules may be hydrogen bonded to certain oxygen containing anions.
c. May occupy interstitial space in the crystal lattice.
