Differentiate between VB theory and Lewi...

Differentiate between `VB` theory and Lewis concept.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

a. According to `VB` theory, a covalent bond is formed by the overlap of half-filled atomic orbitals containing electrons with opposite spin whereas according to Lewis concept, a covalent bond is formed by mutual sharing of electrons.
b. Lewis concept does not explain the shapes of molecules whereas `VB` theory explains.
c. Lewis concept does not explain the strength of bonds whereas `VB` theory explains.
