Why does the solubility of alkaline earth metal hydroxides in water increase down the group ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In case of alkaline earth metal hydroxides, down the group `(darr)` lattice enthalpy decreases more rapidly than hydration enthalpy, hence solubility increases from `Be(OH)_(2)` to `Ba(OH)_(2)`.
