Assertion: Conc. H(2)SO(4) cannot be use...

Assertion: Conc. `H_(2)SO_(4)` cannot be used to prepare pure HBr from NaBr.
Reason: It reacts is weaker than O-H bond.

Text Solution

`Br_(2)` is produced insterad of HBr since HBr being a stronger reducing agent than `H_(2)SO_(4)`, reduces `H_(2)SO_(4)` to `SO_(2)` and its itself oxidised to `Br_(2)`.
