Why is zinc not extracted from zinc oxide through reduction using CO?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The standard free energy of formation `(triangle_(f)G^(ɵ))` of `CO_2` from CO is higher than that of the formation of ZnO from Zn. Therefore, CO canot be used to reduce ZnO to Zn.
