Nucleic acids have two important fuctions:
(i) Replication: Due its unique property of self replication (process by which a single `DNA` molecule produces two identical species of itself), it is responsible for maintaining the heredity traits from one generation to another.
(ii). Protein suynthesis: `RNA` helps in the biosynthesis of proteins and is, in one way, responsible for the process of learning and memory storage. Furthermore, it sends information and instruction to the cell for the manufacture of specific proteins.
