Give reasons for the following:
(i) tert-buty lbenzene does not give benzonic acid on treatment with acidic `KMnO_(4)`.
(ii)Normally, benzene gives electrophilic substitution reaction rather than electrophilic addition reaction although it has double bond.

i. `t-` butyl benzene the `C` atom of the butyl group does not have `H` atom (benzylic).
ii. In the typical reaction of benzene the `pi-` electron of the benzene ring serves as a source of electrons for electrophillic reagents . Benzene does not show addition reaction as in the case of alkenes, but undergoes substituion reactions in whch hydrogen atom attached to the `C` atom is replaced by antoher atom or group of atoms in the form of `H^(o+)`, i.e, it gives electrophilic substituion reactions.
