The potential energy of the spring of ma...

The potential energy of the spring of mass m is `V=1/2kx^2`. How will the force exerted on the body change with displacement?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Let us consider, the force exerted on the body = F. If the P.E of the spring is v, then f = `F=-(dv)/dx=-d/dx(1/2kx^2)=1/2k.2x=-kx` So, F is proportional to x in opposite direction.
