What is the role of ZnCl2 in dry cell?...

What is the role of `ZnCl_2` in dry cell?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`ZnCl_2` combines with the `NH_3` produced to form the complex salt `[Zn(NH_3)_2Cl_2]` otherwise the pressure developed due to the `NH_3` would crack the seal of the cell.
