What is the dielectric constant of a met...

What is the dielectric constant of a metal? Give reason.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Dielectric constant for a metal is infinite. When a dielectric material is placed in an electric field `E_0` (say), the field inside the material reduces to `E_0/K`. In case of a metal, the field inside the metal is zero. This means that K = `infty` for metal.
