A secondary cell after long use has an emf of 1.8 volt and a large internal resistance of 380 ohm. What maximum current can be drawn from the cell? Can it drive the starter-motor of a car?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

maximum current can be drawn by short-circuiting the cell (zero external resistance). Thus, `i_(max) -E//r=1.8//380cong0.005A`. It cannot start a car because the starter-motor needs a large current for a few seconds.
