To increase friction between the tyres and road, tyres are treaded that is oblique inscisions are made to increase the surface area thus making it rough. This way a greater rate of friction is achieved.

Assertion : A cyclist bends inwards from his ver- tical position, while turning to secure the necessary centripetal force. Reason : Friction between the tyres and road pro- vides him the necessary centripetal force.

Assertion : Improper banking of roads causes wear and tear of tyres. Reason : The necessary centripetal force is provided by the force of friction between the tyres and the road.

A : During horizontal circular turn of a car, the centripetal force required should be less than the limiting friction between its tyres and road. R : The centripetal force to car is provided by the frictional force between its tyres and the road.
