Amines are basic while amides are neutral

In amines, alkyl group is electron releasing which increases electron density on nitrogen making them basic whereas in amides `R-overset(O)overset(||)C-` group is electron withdrawing and it shows delocalisation of lone pair of electron present on- `NH_(2)` group, therefore, they are neutral.
