A projectile is fired with an initial velocity of 240 m/s at a target B located 600 m above the gun A and at a horizontal distance of 3600 m. Neglecting air resistance, determine the value of the firing angle ` theta` .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Using equation of Trajectory
Coordinates of the point B are x = 3600 and y = 600 , and these coordinates must satisfy the equation of trajectory which is given by .
` y = x tan tehta - ( gx^(2))/( 2u^(2) cos^(2) theta) `
` 600 = 3600 tan theta - ((9.8) (3600)^(2))/( 2 (240)^(2) cos^(2) theta) `

` or 1104 tan^(2) theta - 3600 tan theta + 1704 = 0`
` Rightarrow tan theta = 0.575, 2.69`
` Rightarrow theta = 29.9^(@)`
` and theta = 69. 6^(@)`
