Find the sample space when two dice are ...

Find the sample space when two dice are thrown simultaneously .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Suppose '1' appears on the first die and '2' appears on the second die, then we denote this outcome as an ordered pair (1, 2). Similarly, if '4' appears on the first die and '6' appears on the second die, then the outcome is denoted by the ordered pair (4, 6)
`therefore` Each outcome can be denoted by the ordered pair (x, y), where x denote the number on the first die and y denotes the number on the second die.
Sample space is given by
S = { (x, y), x is the number on the first die and y is the number on the second die}

Total number of elements in the sample space is `6xx6` = 36
