In an entrance examination, 60% students are boys. In the result of the test it was observed that 40% of boys secured grade 1 and 45% of girls secured grade 1. Find the probability that the student secured grade 1, if it is known the student is a girl.

Let the number of boys be `60lamda` and that girls be `40lamda`
`therefore` 40% of boys secured grade one
`implies` Number of boys securing grade one `=24lamda`
The number of girls securing grade one `=18lamda`
`therefore " " "Required probability"=(18lamda)/(24lamda+18)=3/7`
