Two block of masses `m_(1) and m_(2)` are lying on a frictionless horizontal table connected by a light string `m_(2)` is pulled by horizontal force F. Calculate the tension in the string .

Text Solution

The force is applied on `m_(2)` which produces an acceleration a given by
` a = F/(m_(1)+m_(2)) " " `…(i)
Tension in the string T, for `m_(1)` is
`T = m_(1)a " " ` …(ii)
Fro `m_(2)`,
` F = T = m_(2)a " "` (iii)
From (ii) and (i) , we get
` T = (Fm_(1))/(m_(1)+ m_(2)`
