The object shown in figure is constructed of uniform rods of same material. Find the position of centre of mass w.r.t. its corner O.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

As rods are uniform, therefore centre of mass of both rods will be at thrie geometrical centres.
The co-ordinates of CM of first rod `C_(1)` are (L, 0) and second rod `C_(2)` are `(0, (L)/(2))`
`therefore` The co - ordinates of CM of system are given by
`x_(CM)=(L.2M+0.M)/(2M+M)=(2L)/(3)`
`y_(CM)=(0.2M+(L)/(2)M)/(2M+M)=(L)/(6)`
Hence coordinates of CM are `((2L)/(3),(L)/(6))`
