Find the position, magnification and nat...

Find the position, magnification and nature of the image of an object placed at a distance of 8 cm from a convex mirror of radius of curvature 24 cm.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here u = -8 cm,
R = PC = + 24 cm
`therefore" "f=R/2=+12cm`
Using, `1/u+1/v=1/f`
`1/v=1/f-1/u`
= `1/(12cm)-1/((-8cm))`
= `5/24`cm
`therefore" "v=24/5cm`
= 4.8 cm
Magnification, `m=(-v)/u=(-4.8cm)/(-8cm)=0.6`
Positive sign of m shows that image is erect. Positive sign of v shows that the image is formed on the right side of the mirror. It is a virtual image. Since `|m|lt1`, the image is diminished in size.
