H(2)O has higher boiling point than that...

`H_(2)O` has higher boiling point than that of `H_(2)S`. Give reasons.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

On the basis of molecular mass of `H_(2)O`. Its boiling point is expected to be lower than that of `H_(2)S`. However, due to higher electrone gativity of O, the magnitude of hydrogen bonding in `H_(2)O` will be quite appreciable. Hence, the boiling point of `H_(2)O` will be higher than that of `H_(2)S`.
