Based on the position of Calyx, corolla and androecium on thalamus in respect to the ovary, the flowers are of three types.
They are : A) Hypogynous, B) Perigynous, C) Epigynous
A) Hypogynous flower : Thhe gynoecium occupies the highest position, while the other parts are situated below it. The ovary is said to be superior.
Ex : Rose, Brinjal.
B) Perigynous flower : Gynoecium is present in the centre of the thalamus and other parts of the flower are located on the rim of the thalamus. The ovary is said to be half superior.
Ex : Rose, Pea.
C) Epigynous flower : The ovary is completely embeded in the cup like thalamus. Other floral parts of the flower arise just above the ovary. In this, the ovary is said to be inferior.
