Explanation

Common cold : It is caused by rhino virus group of viruses. They infect nose and respiratory passage but not lungs.
Mode of infection : Contamination is by direct inhalation of the droplets resulting from cough or sneezes of an infected person or indirectly through contaminated objects such as pens, books, cups, door knobs, computer key boards or mouse etc.
Symptoms : Nasal congestion, discharge from nose, sore throat, hoar sensess,cough, headache, tiredness etc., which usually last for 3-7 days.
Prophylaxis : Advancement made in biological science have armed to deal with many infections effectively. The immunization programme by the use of vaccing have enabled us to completely irradicate like viral diseases common cold. Biotechnology is making available newer cheeper vaccines, discovery of antibiotics and various other drugs also enabled use to treat viral diseases like common cold.
