What is meant by plasmolysis ? How is it practically useful to us ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Plasmolysis is the process in plant cells where the cytoplasm pulls away from the cell wall due to the loss of water through osmosis. This occurs when cell is placed in a hypotonic solution, water moves out causes the shrinkage of protoplast leading to the seperation of plasma membrane from the cell wall in the corners called incipient plasmolysis. The salting of pickles and p reserving of fish and meat in salt are good examples of practical applications.
