Two resistors of resistance R1 = 2 Omega...

Two resistors of resistance `R_1 = 2 Omega and R_2= 1 Omega` are connected in parallel with a current source of 3 A. Draw the arrangement and deduce the current `I_1" in "R_1 and I_2" in "R_2.`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The diagram alongside shows the arrangement
In parallel,
p.d.across `R_1=` p.d acrosss `R_2`
`therefore" "I_1R_1=I_1R_2" "(i)`
and `" "I=I_1+I_2" "(ii)`
On solving equations (i) and (ii)
`I_1=(IR_1)/(R_1+R_2)=(3xx1)/(2+1)=1A`
`I_2=(IR_1)/(R_1+R_2)=(3xx2)/(2+1)=2A`
