a) Represent the CHEMICAL BONDING in `H_2O` molecule using electron dot diagram.
b) Water is a polar compound. Give reason.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

a)
b) In water molecules, two hydrogen atoms are covalently bonded to oxygen atom. Oxygen is more electronegative than hydrogen. Hence oxygen atom attracts the shared pair of electrons more towards it. As a result a partial negative charge is formed on oxygen atom and partial positive charge on hydrogen atoms.
