Examine the given equation and answer the follwing question:
`Zn^0 + 2 H^(+1)Cl^(-1) rarr Zn^x Cl_2^(-1) + H_2^0`
Are the statements given below correct? Justify your answer.
a) Zn gets oxidised.
b) HCl is the oxidising agent.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Both the statements are correct.
Oxidation number of Zn increases from 0 to +2. Hence zinc gets oxidised.
