`Fe^0 + 2H^(+1)Cl^(-1) rarr Fe^(+2)Cl_2^(-1) + H_2 ^0`
Does this represent a redox reaction? Justify your answer.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Yes Fe changes to .Fe^(2+). by the removal of two electrons.
.Fe rarr Fe^(2+) + 2e^-. (oxidation)
.H^+. ions changes to .H_2. by accepting electrons.
.2H^+ + 2e^- rarr H_2. (reduction)
Here oxidation and reducation takes place simultaneously . So it is a redox reaction.
