i)Here each carbon atom is covalently linked to another four carbon atom.
ii) This is responsible for the hardness of the diamond.
Graphite
i) In graphite, each carbon is covalently bonded with another three carbon atoms surrounding it.
ii) These sheets ae stacked above one another and each layer is made up of hexagons. There is no covalent bonding between these layers.
