Calculate the number of atoms in a cubic based unit cell having one atom on each Corner and two atoms on each body diagonal

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Ans: There are four body diagōnals passing through the centre and C0nnecting opposite C0rners. The atoms. present on. these diagonals are not shared by the surrounding unit cells. Therefore, C0ntribution by 2 atoms present on the. body diagonal .=2. C0ntribution by 4 atoms present on four body diagonats .=2 xx 4=8. C0ntribution by the atoms present on C0rners .=1. .therefore. Total number of atoms present per, unit cell=8+1=9
