It is not possible to determine the molar conductivity of weak electrolyte at infinite dilution`(Lambda_m^@)` graphically by extrapolation.
Justify the statement giving reason.

Text Solution

`Lambda_m` of weak electrolytes (eg: CH,COOH) increases with dilution, and towards infinite. dilution. it increases steeply and the graph is parallelto the y-axis. Hence `Lambda^circ`, can not be obtained experimentally.

With decreases in concentration of an electrolytic solution , Conductivity (K) decreases and molar conductivity (^^_m) increases. Limiting molar conductivity (^^_m^@) of a strong electrolyte can be determined by graphical extrapolation method, Suggest a method for the determination of limiting molar conductivity of a weak electrolyte, taking acetic acid (CH_3COOH) as example .

The molar conductance of M^(n +) = lamda_(x)^(oo) at infinite dilution and the molar conductance at infinite dilution of N^(m+) = lamda_(y)^(oo) . The equivalent conductance of the salt M_(m) N_(n) at infinite dilution will be (neglecting conductance due to water)

Assertion: According to Kohlrausch's law, the molar conductance of a strong electrolyte at infinite dilution is sum ofmolar conductivities of its ions. Reason: The current carried by cation and anion is always equal.
