Why coal does not burn itself in air but once initiated by flame, it continuous to burn?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Activation energy for the combustion is very high and is not available at room temperature. On applying flame, a part of the coal and air in contact with the flame.absorb heat which provides the necessary activation energy and combustion starts. Heat liberated during this. combusion provides activation energy for the combustion fo continue.
