Why are powdered substances more effective adsorbents than their crystalline forms?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Adsorption increases with increase of surface area of the adsorbent. Thus finely divided metals and porous substances having large surface area are good adsorbents. The surface area of the crystalline substances is less than their powdered forms.
