What is the role of desorption in the process of catalysis?

After the gaseous reactants are adsorbed on the surface of a solid catalyst and the formation of intermediate with it the process of desorption of the product molecules takes place, Thereby the surface of the solid catalysts is made available again for more reaction to occur.
