Why is it essential to wash the precipitate with water before estimating it quantitaively?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

It is necessary to wash the precipitates with water before estimating it quantitatively sö as to remove any colloidal particles sticking to the precipitates. Colloids, as we know, can pass througl ordinary filter paper, whereàs precipitate cannot. Coiloid particles size being smaller to that of the precipitate can pass through ordinary filter paper.
