Adsorption: The phenomenon of attracting and retaining the molecules of a substance on the surface of a liquid or a sölid resulting into a bigher concentration of the molecules on the surface is called adsorption. Absorption: It is a bulk phenomenon. It occurs throughout the body of the materiạl. In this phenomenon., the concentration is same throughout thè material. The rạte of absorption remains same throughout the process. Examples i. Aqueous solution of raw sugar, when passed overbeds of animal charcoal becontes colourless as the colouring substances are adsorbed by the charcoal. ii. If silica gel is placed.in a vessel containing water vapóurs, silica gel adsorbs. water vapours. If anhydrots .CaCl_2. is kept instead of sitiea gẻ, absorption takes place as the water vapours are uniformly distributed in .CaCl_2. to form trydrated .CaCl_2(CaCl, .2 H, O).
