a. .As_2 ~S_3. is a negatively charged colloid and on adding .Ba^2+. ions, the tons combine with charged colloidal particles and neutralise them. As the colloidal particles become free of charge, they unite together to form bigger particlés and finally get precipitated. .This process is known.as.coagulation. b. The coagulation power of an electrolyte depénds on the valency of fon. ie., greater the valency, more is the coagulating power. Thus. .AlCl_3. is more efficient than .BaCl_2. in coagulating .As_2 ~S_3.,sol. c. Artificial rain is formed by sprinkling electrically charged sand or silver iodide into c[ouds. Cloud is.a colloidal system and its charge gets rettralized. Thus, the colloidal water molecules coagulate to form rain.

As_2S_3 sol particles are -negatively charged. What happens when barium chloride solution is added to the above sol?

Assertion: A sol of As_2S_3 prepared by the action of H_2S on As_2O_3 is negatively charged. Reason: It is due to the absorption of H^+ ions on the surface of the colloidal particle and S^(2-) ions in the diffused layer.

The existence of charge on colloidal particles is confirmed by electrophoresis experiment. In the coagulation of,a negative sol, the coagulating power is in the order AI^(3+) > Ba(2+) > Na^+ . Name and state the rule behind this?

Assertion: A colloidal sol of As_2S_3 is coagulated faster by 0.1 M BaCl_2 than by 0.1 M NaCI. Reason: BaCl_2 give double the number of Cl^(-) ion than NaCI.
